Rare Photos of Newborns
This baby was just born; barely minutes old when these photos were taken. Even people with lots of experience with horses may seldom witness the actual birth because mares usually foal at night when most people are not looking. To capture this event as it happens in daylight with a camera nearby is rare. The photos show the mother mare licking Narnia to get its circulation going which gives the baby energy to get up and drink the mother's milk. We see baby's first attempt to stand up and mom's close attention. The mare is Major's Ultra Lady, one of our Tennessee Walker mares that we lost in the spring of 2010. We called her "Lady". Learn more about "Narnia". |
